Listing in Rent SmokeFree is FREE of charge and is a service intended for nonsmokers. Listing in Rent SmokeFree is NOT an endorsement regarding the quality or reputation of any listed entity except if so stated individually. Our focus here is mainly to identify smoke-free enforced apartments companies. Preference is given to apartment and condo properties that have a significant number of units and especially property companies that have active online web domains (a website with a domain name representing the company).
Several other listings are on file, ready to be added. And we expect to hear about countless more, once Rent SmokeFree becomes known. We prefer to provide listings that are verified by print advertising, direct telephone survey or some other reasonable means.
Smoking is a pernicious social disease that causes horrid discomfort, massive health problems and burdens our healthcare system with billions of dollars in unfair costs. Passive smoke is the number one quality of life issue in rentals and condos. It causes ghastly discomfort to nonsmokers and makes pets miserable. Many pets do not have the human advantage of spending much time outside. And so their lives are shortned by smoke-related diseases.
Rent SmokeFree advises all tenants to boycott unhealthy and smoke-infested apartments and condos totally and absolutely. Please support ONLY those landlords whose buildings enable you to breathe fresh air. Renting smoke-free should not be a luxury, nor cost a premium. The day must come when guaranteed smoke-free apartments and condos will be the normal standard and majority.
When renting an apartment or buying a condo, please beware that daytime smoke levels may be low or invisible and rise to horrid levels at night (after you signed your contract). Smoke can interfere with sleep, quickly reduce mental accument (cognitive impairment), reduce the social value of your dwelling where guests are concerned, interfere with enjoyment of food and life in general. Smoke tends to travel not only through door cracks, but will also enter through windows from nearby units, thus making ventillation impossible. Smoke tends to travel up through unsealed floor edges at walls, through plumbing holes, under sinks and from under bath tubs, Smoke migration also occurs through electrical fixtures, ceiling spaces and hallways. The only means whereby smoke can be partially evacuated from a smoke-infested building is through active negative pressure ventillation (suction) that pulls air directly from apartments, out through bathrooms and halls to the roof. But some of the evacuated smoke will typically hover around a building and come back into windows.
Beware apartments where smokers are permitted to smoke within 40 feet of your window since your fan may suck in smoke from outside. (Landlords may be powerless to restrict smoking from nearby sidewalks.) Also, unfortunately, some smoke-free properties are situated next to smoke-infested apartment buildings. This can be a huge problem. The best smoke-free buildings are operated by nonsmokers for nonsmokers. Such buildings are safer in regards to health and fire. People who commit themselves to providing smoke-free housing are helping to reduce diseases and national healthcare expenses and are making life better overall. Please give them your support and word-of-mouth advertising.
